Type of Assistive Technology: High-tech specialized electronic hardware
Level of Ability: The child must be able to understand language and use eye gaze to look at what they would like to communicate.
How It Works: This technology is a speech generating device that uses eye tracking to give those who cannot type, point, or press buttons a voice. The camera uses input from eye movement to allow the user to indicate the message they would like to convey.
Possible Uses: With this piece of technology, the child can look at the screen and the statement they create will be converted to audio output.
Notes: This piece of technology is commonly used for people with limited mobility. Mounts are usually available to attach them to wheelchairs or make them easily transported. Dynavox now also makes eye gaze cameras that are compatible with laptops or small screen desktops.
